Happy Candy Day

Filed under: General — makani @ 8:47 am

Happy Day of Dressing up in Silly Clothes and Tricking People out of Candy Day.

In lieu of dressing up I’m wearing horns to work and then dressing up when I get home tonight and giving out candy. Hopefully by the time I get home there will still be people to give candy to.

Moving things about

Filed under: General — makani @ 3:03 pm

A few things got moved around over at the old website.  (Ha!  I bet you thought I wasn’t updating that anymore!)  There are a bunch of new icons and a some new wallpapers.

The 1680 section is gone; it has been replaced with Fractals.  All the wallpapers that were in the 1680 section that weren’t fractals have been moved (most went to the Utena section, one to the Misc section).

You know, in case anyone out there cares.

Change of Season, Cue Cold

Filed under: General — makani @ 9:17 am

Once again with the change if seasons I have a head cold.  Yay.

I decided to try an October Warm up to NaNo.  Writing 807 words a day.  So far I have my words for Days 1 and 2.  I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to pull it off again today as well.  The whole writing just to have written, just to get a certain number of words on the page doesn’t make for fantastic prose but it does force me to write scenes that I would otherwise agonize over for weeks.

The only real trouble will be to figure out what I’m writing for NaNo this year.  I have a few ideas, the trick will be to see if they last long enough.

Savory Squash Pie

Filed under: General — makani @ 4:20 pm

I decided to try out a recipe for savory pumpkin pie because I enjoy making pie and this was a pie that you could eat for dinner. I ended up using a Winter Squash that we’ve had sitting in our root cellar for about a year.  (Stop looking at me that way!  It was still good!  No squishy bits.)

So I made my own pie crust spread it with a little bit of garlic oil and then mixed some cooked squash with:

3 Tbsp. of grated Parmesan cheese
One egg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp pepper

Baked the whole thing at 400 degrees for 10 minutes and then lowered the heat to 350 and let it cook for 30 more minutes.

And the verdict was that it was very tasty.  Next time I need to use some more cheese though.  It made a great addition to the cranberry pork roast that I cooked.  I’m going to try and see if I slice it thin enough if it will fit well into a Bento.  I think it should.
